Jottonia’s economy is centred around the Jottonian Stock Exchange. Every Jottonian’s assets are reset to 1 million $penn at the start of a new round; they then trade shares in companies from around the region in an attempt to win the round. There are 144 companies listed on the Jottonian Stock Exchange (JSE), covering a range of industries from electronics to public utilities. This number fluctuates as companies go bankrupt and new companies are formed. Not all of the companies are based in Jottonia, many of the surrounding countries are also represented on the JSE.
In addition to the Stock Market, Jottonian’s can earn money in a variety of jobs. They can run their own Law firms, Loan firms and other businesses. There are several Government backed positions, such as Freelancing for the Jottonian Times (JT) or a Governmental Secret Police (GSP) officer. Plans are underway to introduce a whole new economy to Jottonia with import/export and various other features in addition to the JSE. Also planned are “player owned companies” that are listed on the JSE, at the moment loan businesses and the like are private companies.
Stocks on the JSE are affected by events around the Jottonian region although the news published in the JT usually has the most effect. Bad news for one company is good for their rivals and whilst the company with the negative press will see their stocks fall, their competitors will usually rise. However, bad news could also be good news, say for example the JT reports an oilfield fire, Jottoil’s stock would probably rise as the fire would cause oil prices to rise.
Many Jottonian’s also buy, sell and trade goods, Limited Goods, Aristocracy, stocks and a variety of other things. Even names have been sold in Jotheby’s, Jottonia’s Auction House. Limited Goods are special, usually high priced, goods that carry a status symbol. Many Jottonian’s buy these LG’s early in the round, (as soon as they can afford them in some cases), then they sell them on at massive profit in Jotheby’s or via private sale. Aristocracy is also a frequently traded commodity with Jottonians selling each other Aristocracy either privately or through the Auction House.
